Friday Flashback - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Friday Flashback is where I look back at the books, films, TV shows and million and one other things that have inspired me over the years in my storytelling and art. As it still the 'season' this week I'm continuing to have a look at things a bit Cristmassy. This week the classic animated film: The Nightmare Before Christmas!

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop motion animated musical fantasy film directed by Henry Selick and produced/co-written by Tim Burton and was released in 1993. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, the king of Halloweentown, who opens a portal to 'Christmas Town'. However, when he tries to embrace the Christmas spirit, he doesn't quite understand the concept... And things go a little wrong!

The film has a brilliant, classic Danny Elfman score, and also on a side note Danny Elfman provided the singing voice of Jack Skellington too, as well as other minor characters.

  1. Most people naturally assume that Tim Burton directed, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" but it was director Henry Selick that took the helm while Burton wrote and produced the massive undertaking. Selick then went on to direct the stop-motion animation film, "James and the Giant Peach". His next film, "Coraline" was written by fright-master, Neil Gaiman.
